The Bringing Up Bates star who entered the intensive care unit after experiencing septic shock is improving and on the “road to recovery,” the family says in a new statement. Erin Bates Paine gave birth to a healthy baby boy Aug. 25 during a difficult delivery and developed septic shock, a life-threatening condition that causes organ failure. On Sept. 1, her husband Chad Paine urged friends and fans of the couple to pray, saying she was in the ICU and had developed a kidney infection. Three days later, he posted another update, revealing she had “suffered a lengthy and severe seizure” and was “extremely weak.”
But over the weekend, Chad Paine said in an Instagram post that his wife was improving. The post also included a video of a conscious Erin Paine kissing their newborn, Henry Blythe Paine, set to Goodness of God by CeCe Winans.
“With tears in our eyes, we are praising the Lord that we are on the road to recovery,” he wrote. “Your prayers have definitely touched heaven.”
The official Bates family account added underneath the post, “Two miracles lying in that bed! So thankful to God!”
“Praise the Lord!” one person wrote.
Another wrote, “The Best Post I’ve ever seen! Erin you are so loved by your family, friends and many many fans that feel like they know you! I being one of them!”
Bringing Up Bates was a reality series that aired on UPtv from 2015 to 2021, following parents Gil and Kelly Jo Bates and their 19 children as they navigated family life, faith and everyday adventures.
Septic shock is a condition in which infection leads to dangerously low blood pressure and organ dysfunction.
The celebratory post by Chad Paine came two days after he expressed concern about her condition, noting she had been improving prior to her seizure.
“As her husband, it is one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced -- to sit by her side and watch her struggle while being so helpless to ease her suffering,” he wrote in the Sept. 4 post. “I love her more deeply than words can express, and I can’t even imagine life without my best friend. The hours have been long and heavy, and I know many hearts are aching to see her this way, along with mine. We hold on to faith that healing is coming, even in the midst of the unknown. Your prayers are felt and we are forever grateful.”
