Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro challenged democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to a debate, even offering to donate $10,000 to her campaign if she accepted.

That, in turn triggered war of words online.

Shapiro initially tweeted a video on Wednesday in which he mocked DNC chairperson Tom Perez for calling Ocasio-Cortez, the “future of the Democratic Party.”

Shapiro noted that she has claimed Republicans are afraid to debate her, leading to his challenge.

He later said he would donate the $10,000 to charity.

Thursday night Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to call Shapiro sexist, and compared his offer to "catcalling."

Shapiro responded by saying, "Slandering someone as a sexist catcaller without reason or evidence” shows cowardice and bad intent.
