Will Haynes and Jordan Sekulow discuss a massive flip upending a key Senate race in Michigan.
Will Haines: Today on Seculo, we have breaking news as a massive flip up ends a key Senate race. We'll talk about it and more on Seculo.
Guest (Male): Keeping you informed and engaged now more than ever. This is Seculo. We want to hear from you. Share and post your comments or call 1800 684 3110 and now your host.
Will Haines: Welcome to Seculo. Will Haines here joined in studio by Jordan Seculo and we are one day from election day 2026. The midterm elections tomorrow is the last day to vote for many places. Uh you've been able to vote for what feels like a year. I feel like Jordan, but we had some shocking news that happened just yesterday. This is after a crazy week for Democrat Senate candidates in Alaska. You thought wow, that that's the end of it. That's as crazy as it's going to get. Nope. Yesterday, the former candidate for Senate in Michigan, Haley Stevens, who ran a very close race against Abdul El-Sayed for the Democrat nomination, was supposed to attend a unity event at a church in Detroit with El-Sayed and Congressman James Clyburn, who is kind of become the Democrat king maker beyond a lot of the leadership. Remember, he is the one that turned around the Joe Biden campaign in 2020 when it seemed like Joe Biden was just going to drift off into the distance, then you got to South Carolina and everything turned around. He was going to have an event, a unity event and a church in Detroit with the former candidate for the Democrat nomination, Haley Stevens, and the current nominee Abdul El-Sayed. And then there was some bickering back and forth between El-Sayed and Haley Stevens on X and through statements in many places. It all stemmed around that ad that Abdul El-Sayed distanced himself from but would not condemn, which was put out by the Young Turks, that showed people in a grocery store unable to buy bananas or eggs because they had to quote put that $7 away to kill Palestinian children. It was disgusting. It was a thousand year old anti-Semitic trope being brought once again to the forefront in a political ad. He wouldn't denounce it and Haley Stevens took her support away from Abdul El-Sayed, showed up at a different church event with Mike Rogers, the Republican running in the Senate, and Jordan gave her full endorsement behind him. And I don't think I've seen a meltdown and crash out on the Democrat side like I have with this reaction to her flip.
Jordan Sekulow: No, absolutely not. I mean, this is again just to kind of remind people about what's happened here. You had someone running for the Democrat nomination for the Senate to compete with Mike Rogers. And yet what she found in her Democrat opponent El-Sayed is that so offensive, maybe so anti-American because Mike Rogers and and Haley Stevens did not have a problem endorsing him and even appearing with him, has said very clearly, you know, if you're if you're a fan of like the Muslim Brotherhood uh supporting candidates uh so you know support El-Sayed. She didn't like just back up and say I'm pulling my endorsement from El-Sayed. People should vote their minds here, but I just can't in good faith support someone who treated me this way and is having these comments. And And Will, it's it's kind of you looking at overwhelming kind of interesting areas where in Michigan El-Sayed lost some traditional Democrat support over the last week. And there's some other reasons why too, but we'll get to that in the show. And it's very bizarre to me that he is doing these interviews that are very you know are going to be tough, you know, 60 minutes kind of interviews 2 days before an election that you are nominally leading the polls. So do you really want to start getting into the Israel stuff again, the Jewish stuff again, how you see you know this kids and men win sports, all of that when you're his campaign. He decided to. So African American voters are not the support has not necessarily been there. That's very important to Michigan, especially for Democrats. Also a Democrat Jewish voters who are not just say they won't vote, but they're saying they will actively vote for you know Mike Rogers just because of the animosity that El-Sayed is very clear about when he talks about Israel.
Will Haines: Folks, we're going to break all of that down, what it means for tomorrow's big election as well as where the other races stand 1 day before election day. We'll be right back with more on Seculo about this, but now is the time to support our protect the vote campaign and have your gift doubled. Go to aclj.org/vote and donate today.
Jay Sekulow: There are powers at play trying to manipulate our elections to guarantee they get the numbers they need to win no matter what this week as we head towards this critical midterm election on Tuesday. We urge you to protect the vote. If we stand by and do nothing, it's a guarantee we all lose. The ACLJ is fighting to defend election integrity and secure your right to vote in free and fair elections. Legal wins like that wouldn't be possible without you. Defending election integrity across the country requires immense resources. Go to aclj.org/vote right now and have your tax deductible gift doubled. To beat back these attempts to weaponize our elections, the decision is yours. Choose your leaders or have them forced upon you. Go to aclj.org/vote to have your gift doubled to protect the vote today. We've witnessed monumental legal victories from defending the 14th Amendment and protecting our sacred American right to vote, the overturning of Roe versus Wade, and standing up for the religious liberty of our kids and seniors. But even with the many historic wins we've achieved, the battle is far from over. The attacks on our constitutionally protected rights persist. Countless unboard babies remain in jeopardy and across the globe innocent Christians are being targeted and killed across this country and around the world. This fight isn't just the ACLJ's. It's all of ours. It belongs to every American who wants to preserve the values and beliefs on which this nation was founded. None of the victories we've won would have been possible without the unwavering support of ACLJ members and ACLJ champions. It's been an honor to fight for you all these years. Join us in fighting for freedom. Have your donation doubled at aclj.org/freedom.
Will Haines: Welcome back to Seculo. Will Haines here, Jordan Seculo in studio as well and we want to hear from you. What do you think about this last minute switch by the former candidate for the Democrat seat in the Senate, Haley Stevens, where she pulled her support from Abdul El-Sayed and put it behind Mike Rogers. Do you think it moves the needle? Do you think it matters? Here's what's very interesting to me though. The Democrat Party, this is the party of of inclusion. This is the party of of believe when women tell you something that it is not uh to to be discounted, right? But all of a sudden because she is a woman, they are saying some of the most despicable things I've ever seen. They are saying we're concerned that her fiance is abusive. These are these are mainstream Democrats that are saying it's her fiance's fault, what is wrong with her because they can't fathom that she could be thinking on her own, Jordan. Like that is it shows you everything they tell you is a lie when they say that they stand for uh that they are the party of women and that that women have autonomy and it's you know they have choice. They are the party of given women choice. And what do we see here? As soon as someone like Haley Stevens
Jordan Sekulow: Right. It's a choice they don't like.
Will Haines: then that's no longer a choice.
Jordan Sekulow: You're mentally ill, you're being abused. So not only are they uh uh going after her politically. And listen, that she's a politician, she's a Democrat. Fair game if you're going to endorse a Republican uh uh who by the way and you lost the Democrat primary to that opponent, but she had reasons behind it. It wasn't And it's one of those reasons is El-Sayed is not a typical Democrat who shares necessarily where she would be uh when it comes to voting or uh the kind of advertising and campaigns that his his campaign or him didn't really denounce. So that that's part one. Is it going to ruffle you know feathers in your party? Sure. But then when you start saying that you're mentally ill or you're you know someone connected to you, a fiance is is somehow being violent over this decision, you realize they've never been the party of choice. There's only one choice and it's if you don't make the choice that it's politically correct at that moment because that changes all the time too. But at that moment then you are mentally ill and an enemy. And we can do anything and that's how I think that that this new Democrat party thinks because of this kind of socialist communist input. We will do anything then to those opponents, especially what they may see as turncoats uh to destroy them not just politically uh but personally as well.
Will Haines: Well, and once again, it 's not just the party
Jordan Sekulow: Do you really think this kind of be US Senator? I mean think about that with his team. And he could call that off.
Will Haines: When you when you see
Jordan Sekulow: He could say you know what, she's not coming to our events. We have a lot of disagreements, but enough of the personal attacks on her. We won, she lost, move on. I'm trying to run against Mike Rogers. Instead, they're engaging it.
Will Haines: Well, and it's been a full crash out on their side of showing how offended they are that she is thinking for herself uh an issue that he smeared her as being a a shill for Israel using anti-Semitic tropes against her because she's a supporter of Israel and because she is trying to push back on anti-Semitism. He used that against her the entire time when she stuck stuck with her principles the entire time here and when he wouldn't denounce what everyone said was a disgusting ad. Even though they didn't put it out, they just said we didn't have any part with that. He could have denounced it. And instead, she stuck with her principles and they uh and they attacked her for it.
Jordan Sekulow: Right. Yeah. Those tough and this is just knowing the political world I've been in my entire life uh as a working person and intern even before I was getting paid is it often times you those those really nasty ads will come from outside groups and it's fine for the person that they are you know the opponent of the person they're attacking to condemn the ad and not support the ad because it's still going to be out there.
Will Haines: That's kind of a known trick that they do.
Jordan Sekulow: It's still like Yeah. You let You let them say what the whatever they want, put it out there, see if it backfires or not. But you can absolutely condemn it and that ad still running and people are still seeing it. This it's different than to say listen, we had nothing to do with it and that's the end of the sentence.
Will Haines: Well, I I think
Jordan Sekulow: If they said we had nothing to do with it and it 's wrong, that would be part two. Or we call that group to take it down.
Will Haines: It also goes to show the disingenuousness of our media uh when you have the uh Anderson Cooper had Haley Stevens on and kept pressing her on what changed? What changed in 2 hours when you talked to your friend and then put the statement out? Wouldn't let it go and she gave answers, but he wouldn't believe her. And but then think about what the media has done recently. We And And those on the left as well. Like we'll take one more moderate example and then a more extreme example. When uh when Liz Cheney decided to not support President Trump, she was a hero in the eyes of the left.
Jordan Sekulow: Right. You know mentally ill, right?
Will Haines: And they said she put country over party. They went and they they loved Liz Cheney, who had been someone that the left couldn't stand for so long because of her association with her father and her more hawkish views. Then you take the more extreme example because I would um honestly say that Haley Stevens is probably more in that Liz Cheney camp of a of a more moderate example that the media lifted up one and didn't the other. What have we seen recently? We've seen platforming of Marjorie Taylor Greene by Wolf Blitzer having long interviews of tell us why you woke up and and left uh the Republican party etcetera etcetera. This is the lady who was complaining about Jewish space lasers.
Jordan Sekulow: Yeah.
Will Haines: Remember? And she became a hero. They didn't say oh she must something must be wrong with her.
Jordan Sekulow: No, she unravels.
Will Haines: She had the ability though to change her mind and be praised for it. But if you're uh of the liberal persuasion and you say I don't like how far this is going, if you try to put a check on your own party,
Jordan Sekulow: Yeah. Yeah.
Will Haines: you better watch out because they are disowning her. They kicked her out of the party. The head of the Michigan Democrat Party that said that praised on X Liz Cheney for putting country over party said that Haley Stevens is no longer a Democrat and they took her off the website of the state party.
Jordan Sekulow: They mean it's that's why because she still has time to serve you know as a uh member of the House of Representatives.
Will Haines: Her staff walked out? And who's helping her? Anna Paulina Luna said you can use my staff for any constituent services you need. It's people rising up saying okay, you know what,
Jordan Sekulow: Yeah. Right.
Will Haines: this is someone who voted with Joe Biden 98%
Jordan Sekulow: Right.
Will Haines: She's not a conservative, but people are able to see
Jordan Sekulow: I don't believe El-Sayed's a Democrat.
Will Haines: Right. And he's the one who's having the meltdown saying I don't even know what this party is anymore. He's the leader in Michigan clearly of the party.
Jordan Sekulow: Yeah. Oh, absolutely. I and actually think he's he's his voice
Will Haines: That's what's so shocking.
Jordan Sekulow: and where he is on issues. Uh though he's tried to tone some down and had a horrible time doing it on 60 minutes which was
Will Haines: Which we should talk about next segment.
Jordan Sekulow: Yeah, we should talk too because he had he was not good at toning down is that this is the new kind of leaders of the Democrat party. If this election proves to be successful for them, they are going to continue to move out of the kind of mainstream Democrats. And we're talking about liberal when we call it mainstream, we're talking about liberal Democrats and start putting in more of these socialist leaning uh kind of anti the constitution, anti our systems that you know the Supreme Court doesn't work, the constitution doesn't work, and uh who want this radical change. And uh and that again is the the socialist influence. And if they've got success tomorrow, I I think again El-Sayed's not just a spokesperson for Michigan. He's he's he's he's kind of like the face of the party.
Will Haines: Folks, we want to even know what you think. Where do you think with all of these upended changes that you saw with it being Alaska last week with it being what happened in Michigan? Do you think it's just a petty political fight or do you think that it could actually change the outcome of the race? Call us at 1800 684 3110. This has been a entire election season that we've heard about blue tsunamis and and we've seen poll after poll seem to be way outside of the realm of even logical. And then you find out some were actually just fake. Where do you think it lands right now as we head into what's a very pivotal election tomorrow uh having you are you in a state that is a highly contested election where I whether it be Ohio, Michigan, Texas. We know we've got a lot of Texas callers. What are you seeing on the ground there? We'd love to know 1800 684 3110. But we also are hard at work here at the ACLJ. One, there's uh many states have already ended their early voting. There's still a handful left that you may be voting in, but if if you see something or you're concerned about something or are there's any irregularities, you can call the ACLJ and by call you go to aclj.org/electionhotline. If you're concerned that maybe you weren't able to cast your ballot and it something seemed fishy or or you hear of anything uh that you are concerned about, you can go to aclj.org/electionhotline. Uh we have attorneys that are getting alerts as soon as things come in that are assigned to it immediately to take a look at it. Not everything that seems off is something that is off. Sometimes there are just things that are uh confusing or especially with the way the ballots are these days uh and every state has a different way of handling it. But our attorneys are there to give you the confidence that your vote will be cast if you are an eligible voter and have the right to vote in this country. So we encourage you if if there's anything you have questions about aclj.org/electionhotline is the way to get in touch with an ACLJ attorney. But also we've been talking for more than a week now about the projects we have going on, the investigations we have going on in California, in New Jersey, in Maryland, across the country where there are anomalies with the voter rolls where states are trying to keep those that want to inspect them out. They're trying to hide the ball here, but the ACLJ is digging in and we couldn't do it without you. So we have our protect the vote campaign, something that ACLJ has worked for decades on ensuring the free and fair elections of the United States are upheld. And you can support that vital work at aclj.org/vote where your donation is doubled today.
Jay Sekulow: We've witnessed monumental legal victories from defending the 14th Amendment and protecting our sacred American right to vote, the overturning of Roe versus Wade, and standing up for the religious liberty of our kids and seniors. Jordan Sekulow: Welcome back to Seculo. Will Haines here joined in studio by Jordan Seculo. We'll have Rick Grenell joining us a little bit later. But I I think as we go into this um we have to look at a few things as well because I kind of posed the question uh do you think that you know this is just a a squabble between two Democrats that had a really bitter fight for this nomination? And El-Sayed thinking that he uh is entitled to the support of the party because of he won and therefore he should uh normally traditional wisdom is people fall in line and support the nominee. Uh uh and Haley Stevens is bitter because of how closely And remember that election the all the polls said that El-Sayed was going to win by 10 plus points. And it was very very razor thin margin. I think less than a percent uh and our producers can get me that exact data, but it was very close. So the polling was off significantly. And then you also have to couple that with El-Sayed is is very upset by this publicly. And his staff is very upset. Democrats across the country are are going so aggressively against Haley Stevens for changing her mind and can't fathom this. And then you look at the polls and you're like huh, okay, let's take a look at that. Maybe he is concerned because he's only up in the real clear politics average 5.3%. And if he has polling error as severe as it was in the primary, he would lose by a landslide to Mike Rogers. So maybe he is concerned. Maybe that is why he's trying to go on 60 minutes at this point. You think right now not even worth his time to sit down uh with Ross Douthat and give this interview. But instead, he goes on there. And remember this entire squabble with Haley Stevens is over the ad about Israel that came across as extremely anti-Semitic because basically saying you an American can't afford groceries, simple grocery items because of Jews. That's the entire premise of the ad. That all your money has to be taken and given to Israel so that they can kill people. That's the premise of the ad. We've gone through ad nauseam how wrong that is, how it's not even remotely factually correct. If you even add up all the foreign aid, it it's that the American people give across the world it it's not even a full percent of how much is given out annually. But regardless of that, here is a question posed. And the way that Abdul El-Sayed has this almost moment that you think he has practiced this line so much. He's not used to the reporters calling his bluff on it.
Will Haines: Right.
Jordan Sekulow: Let's listen. This is about the Palestinian issue.
Will Haines: Yeah, you got to listen close too. It's a it's the language is not that not clear which maybe he wants, but it's it's almost like he's this is a top issue for him. Everybody knows how he feels about it. He still can't really explain it or he just gets caught thinking why am I doing this, you know, 2 days before.
Jordan Sekulow: Here we go. Biden one El-Sayed on 60 minutes.
Will Haines: Bad idea. I don't ever get the question of does Palestine have the right to exist? Does Palestine have the right to exist?
Jordan Sekulow: Yes.
Will Haines: Does Israel have the right to exist?
Jordan Sekulow: Yes, if there is a shared understanding.
Will Haines: Wait, you said you said
Jordan Sekulow: Let me just Let me just Let me just understand. I believe And this is the This is the problem with this debate. We start from where we sit rather than start from principles.
Will Haines: Right there. He has the gotcha moment for the journalist of I never get the question of does Palestine have the right to exist? So Ross says does Palestine have the right? Simple.
Jordan Sekulow: I think we got that from him.
Will Haines: And he quickly goes yes. Great. Glad he was able to answer that so easily.
Jordan Sekulow: Moving on.
Will Haines: Then he just goes does Israel have the right to exist? Follow up question. Yes, if there's a shared understanding. Wait wait wait. You're moving the goal post here.
Jordan Sekulow: Hold on. What is the shared understanding either?
Will Haines: So Palestine unequivocally yes right to exist. Israel yes if
Jordan Sekulow: If they do what the if they do what we as what radical Muslims want or the Hamas wants or the Iranian proxies like Hezbollah want, that's the only way that Israel can exist or if it's I mean again at this point if you're running for US Senate, explain it. Explain what you think would be if is it a two state solution that you're talking about, a one state solution? We it's not clear from that because it has to again the circumstances. And we need to talk about it as now and principles. All of this will I think is it's just trying to claw back because as we said, he has not been getting the same kind of uh support that Democrats who usually win in Michigan received by two voting groups that are are primarily have been uh you know very strong for Democrats until a lot of this anti-Israel stuff which is Jewish uh voters in Michigan and African American voters in Michigan. I think this is
Will Haines: Being put off by this.
Jordan Sekulow: I think this is a very uh politically fatal flaw in in the campaign that he's running. One, the fact that whatever it was, hubris or ego or what, that he couldn't figure this out with Haley Stevens, that that it was it led to this. And now uh a couple days before the election, you're one of the top stories in America.
Will Haines: And his team let him do this Will?
Jordan Sekulow: Right. I mean that's but here's the other thing. I think it's because at the end of the day he is a true believer of what that ad said. And so he couldn't on his own principle
Will Haines: Yeah.
Jordan Sekulow: denounce it. Because then you see this, he gives this the yes but for Israel. You there's no workable way to get to a answer that Israel exists knowing the ideology behind it.
Will Haines: Right. Yeah, so you had to come up with the Is it Is the Israel he's talking about even Israel?
Jordan Sekulow: And here's the thing I asking you with one thing that we know from studying politics, from working in politics for so long, midterm elections that they try to run on foreign policy typically is a loser for the candidate running on that. And El-Sayed while he's trying to couch this in gas prices and food prices, he's the party and that wants to do away with fossil fuels and wants uh city run grocery stores. So I don't think that you can really make it as the foreign policy is domestic issue. It is fully just a foreign policy campaign. Now
Will Haines: Yeah. Right. Yeah.
Jordan Sekulow: we don't know what's going to play out tomorrow, but traditionally if you're running a foreign policy campaign as a midterm candidate, you lose that election.
Will Haines: Yeah, and you know what else? I think that you've got to realize folks, I think this is why you've got to remember to get out the vote. If you didn't early vote and there are states you can still do that, we'll run through that list in the next uh half hour just so you know and it's a reminder if you're driving around today in those states and you see a location, you can usually vote at that location even if it 's not where you'd usually vote. So most states have that rule. You can go anywhere uh to early vote as long as you've got your ID with you uh in some states. Some I guess you don't have to have your ID with you as long as you know your name and address maybe.
Jordan Sekulow: Or someone else is that.
Jay Sekulow: If you're in California, right? Exactly. Uh but I mean I say second to that we when you really look at the any of the numbers and I don't put I don't really go through poll after poll after poll, any of the numbers while there's this broadly like these numbers that have said you know Americans don't support Republicans as much as they do Democrats. When it gets to these individual races, there are a lot of bizarre candidates running as uh that for the Democrats. And because of that uh I think that's why you've seen this tightening up and the nervousness inside the left just in this last week. And I always try to feel for it that that day before. We know now that it used to be kind of more serious. The reason why I think it's been the last week or two is because of early voting and they know the numbers and they know if they're outperforming or underperforming. And in a lot of states what I've been reading where we've got clear numbers is that uh if they're outperforming, it's barely. And it's not and Republicans are not underperforming. So I think you've seen campaigns shift entirely on the left to try and go more towards the middle in just the last really 48 72 hours. Folks, we'll be back with more of this discussion. If you want to join us 1800 684 3110. But also remember the ACLJ is standing strong to protect the vote. Go to aclj.org/vote to support the work of the ACLJ and your donation will be doubled. That's aclj.org/vote. There are powers at play trying to manipulate our elections to guarantee they get the numbers they need to win no matter what this week as we had towards this critical midterm election on Tuesday. We urge you to protect the vote. If we stand by and do nothing, it's a guarantee we all lose. The decision is yours. Choose your leaders or have them forced upon you.
