A sporting goods store employee, who last month helped catch a suspect allegedly trying to steal a weapon, was suspended and later lost his job over the incident.

Fox News reports Dean Crouch was working at the Academy Sports store in Tallahassee, Florida in June when robbery suspect Jason White allegedly tried to steal a gun.

After White reportedly tried to flee with the stolen firearm, Crouch detained him.

According to his lawyer, Crouch was suspended and then fired over a policy that prohibits employees from placing their hands on customers.

He added that his client, a husband and father of two, has had to sell their home as a result of his termination.
