The Economist was forced to issue an apology after publishing an interview with conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, describing him as an “alt-right sage” and “a pop idol of the alt right”.

Shapiro took part in the interview to discuss the release of his new book and about the erosion of values in society.

But, after the article referred to Shapiro as “alt-right,” the publication was criticized by many, including Republican Rep. Dan Crenshaw, David French, and even CNN’s Oliver Darcy  who noted that Shapiro has been highly critical of the “alt-right.”

Under pressure, The Economist issued an apology, downgrading their label of Shapiro only slightly to call him a “radical conservative.
