Two police officers were shot and killed while they were lying 'defenseless' on the ground after a traffic stop.
It happened in Virginia Beach on Friday night.
25-year-old Cameron Girvin and 30-year-old Christopher Reese made a late-night traffic stop for expired plates. The person driving the vehicle, John McCoy III, got combative and refused to get out of the car.
When he finally did, he started a physical altercation with the officers, pulled out a gun from his pocket and shot both men.
While they were lying on the ground, he shot them again.
Girvin and Reese both died at hospitals after the shooting, according to the Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate.
The subject was found in a shed near the initial scene with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
