A federal judge has ordered President Donald Trump to release billions of dollars in taxpayer money to foreign countries by Wednesday night.
Judge Amir Ali, who was appointed by Joe Biden, first issued a temporary hold on President Trump’s order to freeze all funding issued to USAID – after Elon Musk and DOGE found that billions of dollars were going to fund diversity programs in foreign countries and to organizations linked to terrorist groups.
Judge Ali, has now granted a motion to enforce his own temporary restraining order — giving the State Department until Wednesday night to release the cash.
The order requires the State Department and USAID, to restore the funding for contracts and other awards while court proceedings continue.
The contractors claimed that they were cut off from federal taxpayer money which forced them to stop their work in foreign countries because of President Donald Trump’s executive action – and the directive from Secretary of State Marco Rubio that froze USAID funding for 90 days.
Under Ali's ruling, all USAID invoices from before Feb. 13 must be paid.
Ali also ordered the government to turn over any internal directives from the State Department or USAID leadership telling employees to comply with the court's restraining order.
A group of NGOs, businesses and companies that do work in foreign countries, requested the emergency hearing because they said they haven’t received any payments.
