The Lord didn’t tell His listeners not to pursue gaining wealth. But He did give them a caution not to make that a higher priority in life than obeying and serving God. In the same chapter, He pointed out a truth about human nature - “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
God is a cheerful giver Himself. He freely gives salvation to us through placing faith in Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:1-4; John 3:16-17).
Sometimes big purchases come up that we sometimes have to go into debt for. Your fifteen-year-old car sees its last leg. There is an enormous hole in the roof. Your decent, reliable car needs extensive repair. It has happened to everyone. Does this make you a bad Christian? No, I don’t think so. Sometimes debt is just something you have to do.

In many senses, the church must run some aspects of her operation in terms of a business. How much should a church pay her pastor? How much should the church spend on Sunday School literature? Is it okay to go into debt? These are all questions to be considered by the church in light of its available financial resources. One must not act hastily without considering the cost and sacrifice required.
By living generously, freely giving from our finances to help others and spread the gospel, we will reap eternal rewards. The Bible teaches that we are stewards of our finances. Let us invest our money wisely for the glory of the Lord.
When we financially struggle, it's easy for money to consume our hearts, allowing fear and frustration to grow. When financially comfortable, it's easy to lean on money as the (false) sense of our joy.
The truth is, the natural man doesn’t like to give his stuff away. In our basest form we want to hoard and grab.
